Runaway to the Stars: Page 14

Tube time.

Transcript Mel: Sigh… I don’t know. It’s not like he’s talking to me.
Talita: I’ll go check.
Mel: Oh, real quick– Could you send me those old schematics you drafted for your apartment?
Talita: Uh, sure. Why?
Mel: You’ll find out!
Mel: (walking away cheerfully) Don’t trip on the bug ferrets!
Talita tugs her cart of phone boxes further into the facility, exiting the vehicle bay and entering a hallway with bug ferrets in it. They are low-stanced hexapodal aliens with bug-like legs on fuzzy tubular bodies covered in whiskers, and not very covered in clothes. They have a variety of large spotted fur patterns. They tap each other's arms and quietly vocalize.

  1. Bug Ferrets: Live in low-light cramped quarters. Naked Molerat den vibes. Communicate through low vocolizations which would penitrate further through earth as well as physical contact – The physical contact patterns would stand in for facial expressions/body language/personal communication since they’d live so tightly packed together, you might be surrounded by half a dozen of your fellows but only really “talking” to whoever you’ve got the shoulder of. Look like they prefer to travel in tight packs with very little personal space if any.

This is flipping delightful stuff. 🙂

  2. BUG BUTT SPOTTED

  3. New centaur-friendly residence in the works, maybe? I’m not exactly clear on what Mel’s in charge of around here.

  4. Compared to the other languages on display here English feels so utilitarian and blocky here. Its interesting!

  5. I like that the bug ferrets jacket pattern looks like Starfleet badge insignias.

  9. I like the detail of one of the English signs being taped onto the wall while the avian sign is bolted onto the wall.

Also, yay! Bug ferrets! I wonder if it’s one huge married family who all came in together.

  10. i love the bug ferrets so much, they’re such critters, like is that darker colored one in the corner walking backwards so it can sign with another ferret? thats so cute

  11. BUG FERRETS!!!

  12. At first I thought that one ferret’s outfit was just “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” and thought honestly, fashion icon.

    1. Honestly, same!
(I would love a shirt that just said AAAAAA all over it.)

  13. Sparky Lurkdragon

Time for the Overstimulation Beasts! 😀

  14. given the size difference between Centaurs and bug ferrets I could really see them getting underfoot

  15. I would love to be able to get a closer look at that Avian ISO sign

  16. TotallySomebody

    Question: what are Mel’s pronouns?
