Gillie stomps to get her wife's attention across the hallway.
Gillie: (ASL) Did you already pack my tweezers?
Idrisah looks up from where she is looking at her phone and squatting on the floor of their bedroom while organizing earrings. She is surrounded by stacks of reusable shipping boxes full of packed items.
Idrisah: (ASL) Those should be with the first aid stuff.
Gillie walks in and opens a box next to Idrisah. Idrisah shows her the phone screen.
Idrisah: (ASL) But look! Talita sent photos of the Runaway!
Gillie: (ASL) Wow. Spacious.
Idrisah: (ASL) I didn’t know Bip was such a fancy vessel.
Gillie: (ASL) Pirates live in style, I suppose.
She looks at Idrisah, who is wearing belted pants, a loose top over arm warmers, a hijab, and jewelry.
Gillie: (ASL) Heading out? You're all dressed.
Idrisah: (ASL) Yeah, I’ve got to pack up my work desk.

Earrings/jewelry is my guess. They are in their own little bags consolidated in the big bag so they do not get tangled up.

It’s an open zip-lock bag with smaller transparent bags in it, Idrisah is sorting jewellery right next to it, and what’s sitting between the boxes at the panel’s bottom edge could very well be a pack of more (still empty) small bags, held together with a rubber band or two. I agree, the big bag likely is what she’s putting the ready.to-get-packed-away jewellery into.

And yes, stomping is another way to get attention in Deaf culture, though its usefulness can depend on how the floor is built. Many Deaf schools intentionally build the floors to be mostly hollow so the vibrations travel further and are easier to feel.

The classic problem of packing. You want to make sure you get as much of it done ahead of time as you can, but still have to use some things in your everyday life. At least Gillie and Idrisah has plenty of fliptop containers to put things into. Now, the next question is are they kinda rental containers to be returned to a depot, or did they have them gathering dust in the corner from when they moved here? Also, the jar filled with rubber bands, a household classic.

… soooo the Touati-Sharpes are leaving Dirtball now-ish. Do they plan to leave aboard the Runaway, like Bip suggested? If so, I suppose that the repairs, refill etc. are done by now as well. Paint me paranoid, but I would have insisted to have a closer look at the ship before in their situation …
Then again, employees giving notice but not organizing any regular trip off the planet would likely draw attention …

That was on page 175, but no one exactly jumped at the chance! Gillie and Idrisah started making real plans to leave in the next chapter.
